Stacking The Shelves (2) | Ebook Edition !

Stacking The Shelves is an anytime meme hosted by Tynga Reviews. It allows you to showcase the books you've recently added to your book shelves, whether they're physical or digital.

I am so excited to share this post with you guys. Just last week my mom had a huge paper she had to submit for school. After working all day, she was incredibly tired, and asked me if I would mind typing the paper up for her. So I did, and I guess to show appreciation, she allowed me to order as many ebooks as I wanted. I will admit that I went a little crazy and ended up getting . . . 21 books! Yes, 21 freaking books that I now have in my e-reader collection, and I'm pumped about every single one of them.

Let's get started shall we?

* Grab a snack, some tea, juice, whatever. This is going to be one hell of a post lol. *

Okay so with this book haul, my mission was to purchase titles that I wouldn't normally pick up. As a blogger and reader, I wanted to step outside of my comfort zone and read books that I usually shy away from. Alot of you are going to be surprised to know that I have quite a few fantasy novels in this haul. Can I get hand clap or nah ? I'm so proud of myself. Anywho, back to the task at hand.

Exquisite Captive | Heather Demetrios

I discovered this book while watching an October Book Haul on booktube. I can't remember who hauled it, but I seriously need to thank them because I am dying to read this! First of all, it's about a Jinni. Like that's a good enough reason to pick this book up. Not to mention the cover is sooo
giving me this Arabian Nights feel. Hehehehe.

What I gathered from the synopsis is that the story follows Nalia a Jinni who is trapped in a bottle and forced to obey her master. I'm sure she can't stand him, and wants to be freed. In comes another guy who promises to save her, but she doesn't really know if she can trust him. I heard there's an interesting love triangle in the mix, and I like me some love triangles.

The Silent Wife |  A.S.A Harrison

I actually heard about The Silent Wife last year, but it didn't pique my interest until after I seen that it was being compared to Gone Girl. It has a similar premise I believe, so I'm definitely curious to see how good it is.

The Mara Dyer Trilogy | Michelle Hodkin

I read the Unbecoming of Mara Dyer back in 2012 and absolutely loved it! But because I'm so horrible with continuing a series, I never picked up the sequel The Evolution of Mara Dyer. Well just recently, The 3rd book to the trilogy was released, which pushed me to make these purchases. I've heard nothing but good things about the second and third book, so I'll be marathoning these books very soon.

I didn't read the synopsis for the second of third book, (because I don't want to spoiled of course) and I only vaguely remember what the first book was about. What I do remember is that it follows Mara Dyer, a teenage girl who moves to Florida with her family after being involved in a tragic incident with her friends. She was the only one to make it out alive, and now she suffers from visions and hallucinations about that night. She also meets a mysterious boy and falls for him. Some things happen, but lord knows I can't remember lol.

                   Night Circus | Erin Morgenstern

       Goodreads

Whenever this books is mentioned, it's always followed by such good praise. I haven't heard a bad thing about it yet, and when I always ask where to start in fantasy, this is one of the many recommendations.

Deemed as a magical read, it's about two young magicians who I'm guessing perform in a circus, and eventually fall in love. Sounds pretty interesting actually.

The Intern's Handbook | Shane Kuhn

I have no clue what this book is even about. I was browsing on goodreads, looking for more books to add to my haul when I came across it. Apparently it's about an assassin, who is also an intern for an agency who targets high-profile executives. I've only read two books this year with characters that were assassins, (Throne of Glass & The Innocent Assassins) so I wanted to give this a try.

The Black Hour | Lori Rader - Day

So again I was browsing goodreads under the Thriller section, and came across this baby. It's basically about a Sociology professor who was shot by a student she'd never met. She lived, but couldn't get any answers as to why she was targeted, because her shooter was dead. He shot himself right after his attempt to kill her. There's definitely more to this story, and I am itching to find out.

The Walled City | Ryan Graudin

For the past month or so, I've been seeing this everywhere, and even though it has quite a few mixed reviews, I was still intrigued enough to pick it up. From what I gather from the synopsis, it follows three different characters:

DAI - Who traffics drugs for a ruthless kingpin.
JIN- Who is in a street gang, but is passing as a boy to stay safe.
MEI YEE - A young girl is working in a brothel.

It seems like they're all living lives their trying to escape from, and this sounds really interesting to me.

Atlantia | Ally Condie

I am so nervous to read this book it's not even funny lol. I've been hearing alot of talk about Atlantia especially on twitter and booktube. It has mixed reviews on goodreads, but I was mostly apprehensive to pick it up because it's completely out of my comfort zone. At first I thought it was about mermaids, but I was informed that it's actually about humans who live underwater. Uhh, okayy. But, I'm going to go into this with an open mind, especially since my blogger friend Erin has hauled and started reading it. She says it's good so far, so you know what? I'm going to trust Erin on this one.

The Invitation Trilogy | Roxy Sloane

I've already read The Invitation (the first book) and it is steamy! I received these three books from my good blogger friend Blessie, who I also like to call the Queen of Romance. If you're looking for some good recommendations in this genre, she's definitely the person to talk to!

So, what these books are about, well atleast the first one, is two characters. They're law students who just finished their last exams and are out celebrating. They just so happen to be great friends, and vowed to never make it anymore than that, but I mean come on, that like never works out anyway! So some things go down, and yea. Just know I needed some water after I finished book one. Definitely a hawt read.

Prisoner | Annika Martin & Skye Warren

When I heard about this on booktube, I knew I had to have it! A woman who teaches a writing class in a prison, falls for one of her students. I have never read a book with this type of premise! It's like everything I love wrapped up in one book:

Dysfunction - I mean she does teach in a prison. Prisons are dysfunctional right? lol

Teacher/Student Relationship - Who doesn't love a good teacher-student relationship?

New Adult - One of my favorite genres right now!

Mother, Mother | Koren Zailckas

I found this baby on goodreads, and purchased it as soon as I read the synopsis. You guys know how much I love my dysfunctional reads, and this is no different.

The story follows a mother and her family. She has a loving husband, two beautiful daughters, an intelligent son, but things go completely left, or either they already were. Her oldest daughter runs away with her boyfriend, (a mysterious boyfriend at that) her second daughter turns to hallucinogenic drugs, and extreme fasting, and lands herself in the psych ward. Next her son is diagnosed with Aspergers and Epilespy, and her husband is spiraling out of control with his alcohol addiction. Uhhh, yeaaa this family puts the FUN in dysfunction.

Rapture Serial | Megan D. Martin

If you've been reading my blog for the past month or so, then you'd know I have been ranting and raving about this author's work. The first books I've read from Ms.Martin, was the Filthy Serial which I loved! Now Megan is theeee queen of writing dark & twisted shit, so I'm excited to finally have my hands on these books. I'm not even sure what they're are about too be honest. I read the synopsis for Drowning in Rapture,  but it's soooo vague and all I gathered from it was that our main protagonist is a stripper. I don't think I've ever read anything like this, but there's a first time for everything right?

Blessie we are sooo buddy reading this!

Rooms | Lauren Oliver

I picked up Rooms because:

1. Everyone has been ranting and raving about it and I'm curious.

Okay so that's not the only reason why I chose to purchase this book. I read Delirum by Lauren Oliver and I really enjoy her writing. It's beautiful actually, but in a very simplistic way. Not gimmicky with too many metaphors being shoved down your throat. But, as you all may know, I'm not very good with continuing a series, so I decided to start here in hopes it will motivate me to finish her other works. Oh and it's Adult!

You | Caroline Kepnes

Richard one of my favorite book tubers, hauled this book in either his October or his November book haul. I can't remember which one, but I know that as soon as he held it up, I broke my neck to add it to my wishlist. Later on the next day I purchased it after I found out it was about Obsession. That means there's going to be a whole lot of crazy, and I love me some crazy okay!

If you read alot of crazy books, does that make you crazy too?

I'm really starting to question my sanity.

Unravel | Calia Read

The cover is so pretty!

This is another book that has a very vague synopsis. What I do know about the story, is that it's about a girl who is just admitted into a psych ward. That's pretty much it lol. It has amazing ratings and reviews on goodreads, and it's a New Adult novel. Why not?

Alice + Freda Forever (A murder in Memphis) | Alexis Coe

If there's any book that I'm absolutely, positively, pumped to read . . . it's this. First of all this book is non-fiction, so it's based on a true story about a 19 year old murderess named Alice Mitchell. Back in 1892, she had a same-sex relationship with another young girl named Freda. So that she could get married to her fiance, Alice came up with the idea to pass as a man so no suspicions would be raised. Unfortunately, letters between the two girls were discovered, I think by Alice's dad, and they were forced to never speak to each other again.

Freda apparently moved on with life, and with Alice hurt and heart-broken, she slashed Freda's throat . . . in public!
I was already intrigued by this crazy ass story, but when I seen that this book recounts this real life love story with over a 100 illustrated love letters, notes, maps, artifacts, newspaper articles, etc. I broke my neck to purchase it. I am obsessed with books that have illustrations, or elements other than text such as, social media inspired images, emails, texts, diary entries, notes . . . anything! I even seen an image someone posted of a note Alice wrote that said How To Kill. It even had instructions! This girl Alice was obviously cray-cray, and I am dying to read her story.

Whew, that was definitely a task! Can you imagine how much I had to use goodreads for this lmao. I'm so ready to read all of these books, but I won't actually start until the beginning of next year. I'm using this month and the next, to knock out all my review copies that I've aquired over these past couple of months. I've even decided that I won't accept any more review copies, so that I can get caught up on what I already have. When my load is finally lifted, I'll be diving into all of these amazing titles! Stay tuned guys!

  1. That was a big haul! I don't know about most of them but I'm dying to get my hands onf Exquisite Captive... I mean, I've never read anything with Jinnis! I'm waiting to see more reviews about this one though. I need to read Evolution as well. I read The Unbecoming this past October and highly enjoyed it! Oh, and The Night Circus is also on my TBR. I just can't deal with the amount of books I wanna read. I have no time =( And about Ally Condie and Lauren Oliver, I just don't feel like reading their books. I know I shouldn't say this but I've only read mixed to bad things about them so :/ I don't know what to do to be honest

  2. It was huge! It took me forever to finish this post lol. Exquisite Captive is going to be one of the first books I read when I'm done my review copies. What I've been hearing so far is pretty good, I think people have a problem with the love triangle or something they were saying, but others that don't mine LT didn't have an issue. Looks like I'll be enjoying it lol. Yes, I loved The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. I'm definitely trying to get out of the bad habit of not finishing series. I feel like I miss out on so much when I do this. I've never read anything from Ally Condie, and I haven't exactly heard great things about her writing either, which is why I'm so nervous about reading Atlantia. I've read Delirium and it was actually good. I will admit that I was surprised, and Rooms has been getting mixed reviews but I'm just excited it's not YA. I've read enough of that genre this year lol. Thanks for stopping by!

    2. Well that's good. I'm only at about 100 or so pages, and I'm starting to get a little bored. The plot is good and unique, but Condie's writing style is just so plain. There's no variation. She'll literally have three or four sentences in a row with the same amount of words, so it's making reading it difficult.
